A webcomic hosting application I created in Ruby on Rails. I had several friends asking if I knew any good places to host webcomics, and I did not know of any such places. So, I took about two weeks to build this application in Ruby on Rails. Unfortunately, most of my friends lost interest and the time necessary to work on web comics, but I left the application up in case it became useful.
Artopolis was another project to learn more about quickly developing web applications using Ruby on Rails. The idea was to create a clone of DeviantArt with strong interface improvements for use by friends and family. The project was abandoned about halfway through due to the urgency of class projects, but since it was developed before the file_column plugin, this application still shows some relatively advanced file manipulation and scripting capabilities.
A project completed during the summer of 2006, Ruby Classroom is a classroom management web application targeted at secondary school educators. The primary purpose of the project was to learn Ruby on Rails, and how to use it to speed web development. It accomplished this goal handily, and I also got some real-world experience with server deployment and configuration for Ruby on Rails.
